In addition to enhancing "curb appeal", dimensional shingles also help hide construction quirks found in many Northern Virginia homes built during the construction boom of the late 1970's and early 1980's. Many homes of this time frame were built without proper attic ventilation and lack plywood clips needed to allow plywood to expand and contract. This combination can cause unsightly plywood seams and dips with may be visible using a standard 3-tab shingle.
